gary husband on level 42 dvd!!!!

been a fan of gary husband for quite a while but just thought i would share my opinion on the new level 42 dvd. www.audiophileimports.com (only 14 bucks now)

this is one is really worth checking out,i got mine off ebay for 8 bucks!! Anyway, the passion and power he displays in his drumming is really worth taking a look at,the music is all level 42 songs from the past but scaled down(sounds much better) with all new players. there are some spots that are just unreal in this dvd,especially the interplay between gary and mark king. just some really sick playing plus some great pocket.. get it now!!!

Personally, I prefer Phil Gould era Level 42, he grooved is arse off.

yeah, i liked phil alot too, he really was the man with the perfect groove and hits the pockets much better than gary. and i always prefer him too. However,when i saw this dvd it really showed what differnece gary brought to the table for levels' music, plus i really dig his passion while he is performing(which i had never seen him actually play).

I have the Level 42 live with Phil on VHS, and Level 42 Live with Gary on CD, and I'll take Phil over Gary in a second. Phil's pocket is just so deep, and this taste in fills is incredible. Such dynamics. I was so sad when Phil left Level 42. [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img]

Yeah I have to agree about Phil.

Those grooves on 'World Machine' were deep, really laid into the back beats with that snare.

But when he pulled off a fill, it sounded great & never got in the way of the tune. I believe he was one of Neil Pearts favorites too, going by an old MD article.

I would love to be able to play like that.

Saw my name crop on on here. Great forum! Hope you don't mind me throwing in my two cents worth.

Re; L42, keep the jury out until you hear the real NEW live one - LIVE AT THE APOLLO, multi-region 5.1 DVD. (I think the one referred to in this thread was one called Reading ... which wasn't a goodie in the least. Not for me.)

For the moment it's only out at http://www.level42.com/shop/cdvideo.asp

I didn't pat myself on the back for too many of my efforts with that particular band, but with this one (from the most recent tour) I think the band sounds and feels real good. It's mostly still old music on there, but hopefully there may be a new album to do with that group later this year, with new material.

It's not got a big general release profile, which is another reason I'd quite like to take an opportunity to sound people out about it.

Furthermore, and very close to my heart, is a nice DVD with my band Force Majeure coming out in a couple months too. proud of that. I brought R. Brecker, Jerry Goodman, Jim beard, Matthew Garrison and whole load of rather special people together for it. It's a project that'll keep going too.

Anyway, wishing everybody great spirit in drumming, and general all-around warm regards to everyone.

Nice to see you on here too Gary. I sometimes catch you at Ronnies and the like and love your trio with Mick & Gene... awsome playing and great music too.

I heard a track of yours on Jazz fm recently, I think it was called New York something? Part of a suite? What I heard of it was incredible. I did a gig with Mick recently and he told me that when he came in to play his part, you had already put down piano and drums - he was very impressed and told me that it was some of the most challenging music he's had to play!!

I also picked up Jim Mullens' Animation CD recently, again beautiful playing by one and all. Shame you only got one knock on the album... oh well!

Anyway.... thanks for all the years of great music and keep representing the UK!!

It must a hard gig stepping in for someone like Phil. Much in the same way Simon stepped in to Jeff's shoes for Toto. Kind of impossible.
